Introduction

In version 10.0.36 (September 15th, 2023) Microsoft has released Warehouse management only mode (WMS Only). This means that now the WMS module in D365 can be used as a standalone WMS, integrating to any ERP system. We recommend starting with our blog post on why this is a game changer from Microsoft if you're new to WMS only mode.

Conceptually, not much has changed in the WMS processing and use. After enabling the feature, two new work order types become available:

  1. Inbound shipment order - substituting the purchase order.
  2. Outbound shipment order - substituting the sales order.

As part of the introduction of inbound shipment orders a new mobile device menu item for receiving is introduced, but beyond these changes the WMS module will function the same as before.

Below we've provided a configuration guide describing the step-by-step setup required to get to a state where the new inbound shipment order and outbound shipment order messages can be used for testing and demo purposes.

For demo purposes, we are using a freshly 10.0.36 (Update 60) environment with Contoso demo data in the USMF legal entity.

The Warehouse management only mode configuration guide is designed as a five part series of blog posts:
