D365 release overview - 10.0.41

10.0.41 release overview Oct 16, 2024

Back to the release learning center

From September 2024, the next Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management version, 10.0.41, is generally available.

Not many new features have been introduced specifically for warehousing. The only one is a new capability to link transfer order lines with sales order lines.

Warehouse management only mode received new Outbound shipment processing policies and improvements on receiving Unannounced returns.

Some other improvements were made to the Inventory Visibility and Production control modules. Perhaps the biggest addition is the new Traceability overview feature (in Preview), useful for all companies involved in production and distribution of goods.

In this blog, we will mention the most important new features and enhancements related to the Warehouse and Transportation management modules.

Link transfer order lines with sales order lines

In D365 we can create transfer order lines directly from sales order lines. This is useful when the sales demand must be supplied from another warehouse. The update to this functionality expands on this by linking and marking the related sales and transfer orders together, which makes it easier to track the relationship between the two orders, and generally improves the handling of inventory.

  • View all transfer orders generated for a specific sales order line easily and vice versa.
  • Choose to create a new transfer order or add the items to a matching existing transfer order.
  • Receive a warning when attempting to create multiple transfer orders for the same sales order line.
  • The inventory is automatically marked between the order lines (inventory receipts with inventory issues) for the purpose of inventory costing (only if the items are nonsettled).
  • Automatically reserve the transfer order quantities for the sales order they were created from.

Note this feature is in preview on 10.0.41.

Traceability overview

Not directly a warehousing topic, but traceability is an ever-important requirement for production companies, especially when unsafe or defective products must be recalled. It is a very needed feature for companies using batch and serial number tracking.

The new traceability feature enables you to trace raw materials and subassemblies in a final product and track their usage and disposal. It essentially follows the goods as they move through the supply chain. It promises more accurate tracking throughout an item's full lifecycle, tracking all events against each serial and batch number, and allowing you to see any products that could be impacted by defective items, etc.

It also offers public API to integrate with external systems and Integration with the production floor execution interface.

To enable this new concept, you must enable the feature in D365 SCM itself, configure Microsoft Azure, and Install and configure the Traceability app in Power apps. See more at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/traceability/developer/traceability-install

Note this feature is in preview on 10.0.41.

Outbound shipment processing policies

The new processing policies offer two distinct options. Enforce shipment to order matching  defines whether one shipment should be associated with each demand order (this is an obligatory option if using WOM). Fill entire shipment controls whether warehouse wave processing proceeds with work creation only when warehouse work can be created for the complete shipment (full quantities for the shipment lines).

The new processing policies can be defined by order, by customer, by source system (in case of WOM). If set by order, the policies will be applied to all shipments created from those orders. If set by customer, a policy assigned to a customer is inherited by the outbound orders for those customers, and then the shipments inherit that setup. In case of by source system, the policy set on the source system setup is inherited on all shipments coming from that source system.

Unannounced returns in Warehouse management only mode

A recent enhancement, receiving unannounced returns (blind returns) is now available to use with WOM. The process and setup are very similar between normal WMS and WOM modes.

Other feature enhancements

The list of WMS related feature improvements in this release:

  • Inventory dimensions with license plate id cleanup – clean-up of inventory dimensions with license plate IDs older than one year and with no on-hand inventory
  • Container label printing improvement – container labels can now be printed at container close
  • Dynamic printer selection improvements – default printer can be assigned to specific mobile devices
  • Load packing slip posting – ability to execute the sales order packing slip procedure in batch, based on data from warehouse loads (!!)
  • Location directives Locate by ASN for Transfer receipt – ability to put all items on a license plate (ASN) to the same location for transfer order receipt.
