Introduction
From June 2024, the next Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management version, 10.0.40, will be generally available.
One of the main topics of this release is the introduction of the Operate external shared warehouse with Warehouse management only mode functionality. Furthermore, a new Complete Mixed license plate MDMI is included in this release. Several feature enhancements are also introduced. And last, but definitely not least, over 80 warehouse-related bugs have been fixed.
In this blog, we will mention the most important new features and enhancements related to the Warehouse and Transportation management modules.
Complete Mixed license plate
A new Complete Mixed License Plate mobile device menu item has been introduced. Through this MDMI, the user can complete a received mixed license plate, which will finish the registration process and trigger the generation of the inbound putaway work.
The user can use this menu item as a standalone mobile menu item or use a detour to make the functionality available during the purchase or sales order return receiving flow.
Operate external shared warehouse with Warehouse management only mode
In addition to the Warehouse management-only mode functionality (see our blogs for more information about how this functionality works), you can now use the warehouse-only mode to handle logistics operations in a legal entity specifically dedicated to warehousing operations.
With this new feature, you can connect warehouses between the logistics legal entity and other legal entities to handle all the processes that need to happen outside the warehouse operations, such as sales and finance.
Furthermore, warehouse management processes can now use the Owner inventory dimension. This dimension can be used to track which legal entity owns the inventory for items that are shared across legal entities.
Automatic rewaving of non-allocated shipment lines
In the release of 10.0.37, a new Automatically add shipments to a wave batch job was released. This functionality has now been extended by monitoring the status of failed shipment lines.
A new Failed shipment lines form has been introduced, listing all shipment lines that have failed to be allocated. By tracking these failed shipment lines, these records can now be included in the Automatically add Shipments to a Wave batch job. This will ensure that shipment lines that have failed to be allocated are automatically placed on the next new wave.
This feature will increase the efficiency of this process, as it eliminates the need for the user to manually identify these lines and add them to a new wave.
Hide mobile device menu items in the menus
This enhancement will allow the user to hide mobile device menu items from the mobile device menu. This is particularly helpful when using mobile device detours, where MDMI are added to the Mobile device menu but not used as a standalone menu item. Now, these menu items can be hidden, and the user will not be presented with these menu items on the device.
On the Mobile device menu form, the user can right-click on a Mobile device menu item located in the Menu Structure and press Hide. This will hide the menu items from the mobile device view.
Minimum amount of characters required for license plate number
Two new fields are introduced on the Warehouse management parameter form. First, the user can specify whether a minimum number of license plate characters needs to be used. When this parameter has been enabled, the user can specify the minimum number of characters used.
With this functionality enabled and a number specified, the user will be prevented from creating a License plate ID without the minimum number of characters. This feature can be helpful as the worker can be prevented from scanning an item or location instead of a license plate ID.
Location blocking causes policy
A new Blocking cause policy needs to be assigned when using blocking causes fields (Input blocked and Output blocked) on the locations.
Previously, the user could only specify why the location was blocked by specifying a Cause of blocking. With this release, the user must specify a policy determining if the blocking cause will be used when processing the warehouse work.
When the policy is set to Do not use for warehouse work, the locations blocked for this reason will not be blocked when processing warehouse work. But when the policy is set to Also use for warehouse work, the associated locations for this blocking cause will also be blocked when processing warehouse work.
Return order item receiving enhancements
The previous releases introduced a new Return order receiving functionality. For a detailed description, refer to this blog: D365 feature review - Optimize the customer returns process.
This 10.0.40 release includes some enhancements to optimize this process. The user can now print license plate labels during the Return order item receiving. Furthermore, the earlier described Complete Mixed License Plate mobile device menu item can also be used to receive sales order returns.
Warehouse transaction date policy
The warehouse management parameters now include a new Work transaction date policy drop-down field. In this field, you can configure the date policy for the warehouse-specific transaction dates.
The user can select one of the following options: No Adjustments, Adjustments based on the company's, the Site's, or each user's specific time zone. The warehouse work transaction date will be adjusted based on this setting.
More information about warehouse-specific transactions can be found here.
Advanced address maintenance
The final enhancement we want to point out is advanced address maintenance. This enhancement lets users delete unused historical addresses through the Manage Addresses page.
This can be used to clean up the addresses that are not being used.
